Since the beginning of mankind sex
and all that it encompasses it has affected every corner of globe. Many problem
have risen from the sexually activity such as unplanned pregnancies which can
have undesirable effects on society. Condoms are sheath-shaped barrier devices
that are used during sexual intercourse to reduce the probability of pregnancy.
They have been around as early as the 3000 B.C and has been made from materials
such as fish bladders, linen sheaths, and animal intestines. Although
innovative, condoms aren’t reliable enough to combat pregnancy rates. This has
lead to the popularity of Birth Control today. Sadly, birth control has on been
an option for females. It still leaves males susceptible to impregnating women.
A technological fix that can help
change the way we have sex in society would be advancements in Male Birth
control. Modern science has created a male
birth control shot which is nearly 96% percent effective at preventing
pregnancy but researchers found, it gave male users negative side effects
including mood swings, an altered libido and acne. One male even tried to
commit suicide. Despite these side effects this technological advance is
helping move society in a better direction. Decreasing the number of unplanned pregnancies
can help decrease the number of single parents, the number of males
incarcerated for late child support payments, and abortion rates. These
negatives stem from unwanted pregnancies and cause poverty, political tension,
and increased taxes for the US population to fund prison systems. It seems like
a domino effect but just the simple creation of a successful Male birth
contraceptive pill or injection can help resolve some of these societal issues.
Social engineering can help
decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies by educating young teens at high
school on sexual awareness, handing out free condoms and capsules of plan B. Unfortunately,
I believe these forms of social engineering may only perpetuate the problem because
these are only short term fixes rather than a lasting solution. People are
still going to have sex while knowing the risks, and a sexual education classes
can’t save females from friendly fire shots of ejaculation. Condoms rip and
take away the feeling of a great vagina, and plan B will only give you 3 days
to figure out the best way to ask your parents for your allowance money to pay
for it since you’re a broke college student. Being hardly able to support yourself
in college is hard enough but to think about two more individuals is just
another level of stress. Male contraceptives would be a great for the single
male looking to have fun without making a sun.
